Oh boy, what an odyssey!

Yes, the 2017 are slowly becoming a problem (maintenance wise).
Like with all Chinese products, there’s no real warehousing beyond 1-2 years. When dealers ran out of their stock, you’re more or less left to the used-parts market.

Your dealer tried to connect a 2nd gen dashboard… that won’t work, mate (been there, done that). For your model you will need the 1st gen one… Check my 2nd Gen Dashboard post to spot the differences. Green sticker on the back = 2nd gen.
Why is that? No idea really… I assume it relies on having TP32 and/or ACC connected to the ECU, which in our case has no clue about these signals.
Also the CAN bus protocol might be different (requiring the v3 ECU), which would explain your strange display experience.

Recommendation… mhhh, selling it in the UK will make the buyer (and probably you, too) unhappy.
Parting it out: Body-panels/chassis might sell, the ECU/dashboard/throttle are specific and nobody in the UK can use them… and thanks to Brexit shipping to the EU will make your prices quite unattractive.

But to be honest, if you want to drive your NIU instead of making it a “Bastelbude” (you should have learned that term in Germany ;-)), bite the bullet, get a new one and sell the old one in 2 batches: Parts compatible with the NQi stay in the UK, the others sold to a dealer in Germany who still has “2017 customers”. The v1 dashboard still goes for a whopping 180€!!

Cheers, Axel

Not that I know of.
Pro Tip 😉: Ask your dealer if you may connect that 35ah battery to your trusty ’17 N1S – this is for checking, if the ECU successfully talks to that BMS.

Probably your dealer can do that using his “H1 Device”, which is the official check-up tool every official dealer should own.

You did not mention your model – but at least for the N1 the specs say:

• Front tire 175KPa = 1,75bar = 25psi
• Rear tire 250KPa = 2,5bar = 36psi

Hey Sandy,

No, your “U” is not secured (by the alarm) if the ECU battery is flat. So you need to connect the main-battery for about a day to have it charging the ECU battery (which is comparable to a mobile-phone battery).

That said, it’s ok to leave the main battery in your scooter if the temperatures are above give-and-take 10°C.
That said avoid minus degrees at all cost! So also check your weather forecast for the night…

Linking Chinese video-portal videos is always a pain in the ass. As Guillaume suggested, use YT as a “hub”…

BTW: Quite some users asked me about a reliable source for the controller and some kind of shopping-list.
Can you be so kind and share your supplier etc.?

Cheers, Axel

Hi Giovanni,

AFAIK only NIU knows the exact build date of your scooter. But you should be able to figure out your model-year by looking at the documents you got from your dealer… or just compare the features with those described in this post.

Hey Daniel,

Do you have a picture of that “R” message?
So, here are some photos of what I received from China (split in two posts). PS: at first I thought I bought cakes instead of a controller. :-)))
Really love the packaging… timeless! 😀

And great post about your success with your “experiment” – big thumbs up!

Unu … well, while that’s a tooooootalyyyyyy different league (not ;-)) – theoretically a 2nd parallel controller should work as well. All you need is a proper cable harness which keeps the main-controller happy while the added DC motor-controller has the correct connection to the motor. I.e. you need a wiring-map.

Well, in Europe you might get in legal trouble by selling it… that said, China is a different story.
